, but in case you don’t I’ll tell you.
It happened during the youth of the nation of Israel after God Himself had become their help. Moses had led them out of their bondage in Egypt. God continued to show Himself mighty to the children of Israel, yet they continued in their habitual complaining, never taking a moment to genuinely praise God for His blessing and provision. Humble gratitude never characterized them as a whole.
I often wonder if there was one or two who held their attitudes above the negativity, who kept their tongues from murmuring. I must admit I would not have been the one.
The complaining young nation of Israel had been led to the wilderness, and a remnant was brought out. Moses had died shortly before they claimed the Promised Land while Joshua continued with the Lord’s mighty men conquering over the cities, and purging the land from the wicked people. In Joshua 10:12 it is recorded after one such battle as they were hunting down the enemy that Joshua prayed, asking God to stay the Sun and Moon. He basically asked God to give him more daylight so that his army could avenge themselves. The extra daylight time saved the battle. Joshua asked God to issue Daylight Savings Time to the Moon and Sun, and God did!!!
Prayer had stayed the sun!
Joshua 10:12-14 Then spake Joshua to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, Sun, stand thou still upon Gibeon; and thou, Moon, in the valley of Ajalon.
And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to go down about a whole day.
And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel.
Facts on DST
Daylight savings time as we know it, began its current schedule in 2007from the second Sunday in March to the second Sunday in November. The schedule was a result of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. It has been changed numerous times during our history for just as many reasons. DST is an effort to change the standard time so that we get the greatest use of the daylight. It is also used for to save energy. There are many people who have shared this idea in some way, going back to ancient civilizations. Its invention is a subject for debate. It seems that every country had someone who proposed it, and in America it was Benjamin Franklin. However, we did not put it to use until World War I, and did not keep it up till after World War II.
