The etymology of the word “lord” (n.) is interesting. It is derived from the words loaf and ford or afford, in other words “bread giver”. There are many definitions, here of which are a few.
1) A master
2) A husband
3) An honorary title
When lord is used in the Old Testament and printed in all capitals, it is referring to Jehovah God. In the Scriptures it is applied often in the definitions given above.
This site’s name was borrowed from Psalm 34: 3 “Magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.”
When I write about the Lord, pleasing Him, living a life glorifying to Him, magnifying, and exalting Him, I am speaking of Jehovah God, Creator of the universe. I am speaking of Jesus Christ, God’s own Son, and equal. I am speaking of the Holy Spirit whose purpose is to magnify the Son. These three are indeed one, and in my life I have given them the title of Lord.
I am not promoting a religion. I am writing the story of a relationship with the LORD. This blog is my testimony, a journal of walking with God or away from Him, and back to Him again. It is a record of my struggles to stay in step with my Shepherd, and taking joy in finding His will.
Blogging for me is accountability to grow; it is proof of either my old nature or His nature manifested in my life. It is the story of His redemption and sanctification of me.
I like John have said, Father, glorify Thy name, and I believe He has glorified His name in me, and will do it again. (John 12:28)
Magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together.
Perhaps you are feeling that you don’t have a relationship like the one I have described. Let me tell you, you can. You must be willing to make Jesus Christ, Lord in your life.
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.
For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
It is not that living a life glorifying to God earns me salvation, instead it is because of my trust in Christ as LORD that I am saved from my sins, and He makes my life new. Without knowing and believing in God’s Son, Jesus Christ, I cannot do good. My efforts always fall short. My trust is not in my efforts to praise and magnify God, but in the fact that He is worthy to be praised and magnified.
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Rom.3:23
This in itself is kind of depressing, but the next verse gives the good news!
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Rom.3:24
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
